Be Creative

The world looks a little different these days. It’s crazy, to me, the timing of when this pandemic happened. It’s during a time of the year where we celebrate rebirth both spiritually and physically, yet we’re currently in a place of doom, despair and unknown. Now, more than ever, we can learn and grow with each other and teach our children the important things in life. We now have time to get outside and explore with them everyday versus only on the weekends. We can experience how they see and interpret the world. The sky and air are cleaner due to less pollution. We can hear the birds singing and the bees buzzing on our daily walks. We now don’t have the constant hustle and bustle of noise. We can go outside and actually explore and teach our kids about the Earth!

But we also don’t want to forget all of the people who are not as fortunate to be able to stay home during this time. The ones who are on the front lines keeping us safe, fed and protected. We wanted to do a craft to celebrate Earth month but also honor ALL of the Heroes helping us each and every day to get through this unprecedented time. The “Tree of Life” craft is great for toddlers up to school aged kids. There are two versions to suit each individual child’s capabilities. My daughter completed both versions with my help regarding cutting the leaves. It can be toddler-assisted or kid-independent with safety scissors. It’s a great way to help teach our children how it takes people from all aspects of life to come together and help to form a united bond. An analogy to help nurture a tree to grow and thrive.

Version One

Materials needed:

  • Free printable – link below
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick – this one is great because it goes on purple and dries clear, easy for kids to see during application!

Cut out the individual leaves.

Craft table ready to use!

Glue the leaves on the tree.

This one was very easy for my daughter to complete! She enjoyed being able to independently glue each leaf herself.

Version Two

Materials needed:

Ready to color!

Color the tree and the leaves. My daughter colored each leaf the same color as the outline, but you can choose any colors!

I was really proud of how well she colored the tree! She went a little color crazy with the leaves, but that was the fun part! It also didn’t matter because we cut them out after anyways! 🙂

Glue the leaves on the tree.

This version took longer to complete and would be great for school aged kids to create on their own!

Either version, or both, would be great to complete and hand out to any special Heroes! We have a lot of family and friends on the front lines right now and our love and support goes out to all of them! We can all get through this together! We need to love and nurture each other, similar to how you love and nurture a tree to help it grow. ♥
