Easter egg hunts have come and gone, but for some reason the candy is still lingering in the house. With Spring in the air and Earth Day approaching we wanted to do a simple, tasty, butterfly treat using the leftover candy! You only need a few ingredients you probably already have on hand. This is also a great activity for kids!

Materials needed:
- Snyder’s mini pretzel twist
- White chocolate melting wafers
- M&M’s – I used leftover Spring ones
- Rainbow sprinkles – I used leftover Spring ones
- Wax paper
- Ziploc bag – This plastic squeeze bottle would be easier to use, but I didn’t have on hand
- Baking sheet
Directions:
Line a baking sheet with wax paper and place two pretzels side by side to form “wings.”
Break the top piece off of a pretzel twist to use for the “antennas” and place above the wings.
- Melt 1 cup of chocolate in a bowl according to the package directions and pour into a plastic squeeze bottle or a ziploc bag and cut the corner.
- Squeeze the chocolate down the middle between the wings and in between each pretzel hole. You need to work quickly before the chocolate dries. I wouldn’t do more than 6 butterflies at a time.
- If you’re using a squirt bottle, place the bottle in hot water to keep the chocolate from hardening.
- If you’re using a plastic bag, heat smaller amounts of chocolate at a time and use a new ziploc once it runs out.
I like to presort the candy so it’s easier for my daughter to use during application. These silicone baking cups are great for this!
Place the M&M’s down the middle of the butterflies first. Make sure to gently place them, if you push too hard the wings will start to spread apart.
Pour the sprinkles over the wings. My daughter really enjoyed this part! There’s no wrong way to do this.
- Let the chocolate harden for at least 20-30 minutes.
- Carefully lift and tip each butterfly over to let the loose sprinkles fall on the tray before serving.
My daughter was really excited to see the finished product! These make a perfect sweet and salty treat to share! It’s also a great snack to make to celebrate Spring, Earth Day, Mother’s Day or any fun event!
