Version one: stained glass star

Materials needed:

Stack all three colors of tissue paper together and cut into strips. Cut them into squares over a bowl.

Cut out the two star outlines. Make a slit in the middle and cut upward towards each star point to cut out the center.

Tape star dot template to a table.

Tape top of paper size piece of contact paper (sticky side up) on top of star dot template. Slowly peel off paper layer.

Tape the bottom of contact paper to the table.

Place one of the star outlines (red side down) onto the contact paper lining up with the star underneath.

*Note: The star dot template is optional – it is a great tool to use for younger kids to help with color recognition!

Craft table ready to use!

Place the tissue paper on the corresponding color dots (or random if you didn’t use template). You don’t have to place a piece on every single dot.

It’s also okay if the tissue paper goes outside of the star outline.

Place the other star outline (red side down) on the sticky side of another piece of (paper size) contact paper.

Carefully line up the stars. Starting in a star corner, lay the contact paper (sticky side down) onto the other star. Slowly roll down the contact paper.

Smooth out the contact paper.

Cut out the star outline. If you cut right up against the red outline you may have to add glue to the inside corners of the star to make sure it sticks together. You can also cut further out from the outline to ensure there is contact paper sticking to each other. Punch a hole and string ribbon to hang it from a window! ♥

My daugther really enjoyed seeing the light shine through the star!

Version two: painted star

Materials needed:

You will need one star dot printable and one star outline printable to complete the painted star! I used these silicone muffin cups to place the paint in for ease of use.

Using a stipple brush, dab a blue dot on all of the corresponding blue dots. Repeat with the red and then the white. You can use the same brush. My daughter used a different brush for each color.

Allow the paint to dry completely. You can use a blow dryer to speed up this process.

Cut out the star template and glue (red side up) on top of the painted star.

Cut out star template.

She really enjoyed the finished painted star as well! You could punch a hole in the top and string a ribbon through it if you’d like to hang it. We decided to leave it the way it was and propped it on a table.

Both of these stars are easy for your little one to complete! If you use the star dot printable for the stained glass one you might a well go ahead and use the left over template to paint! 😉 This would be a great activity for kids to complete for any patriotic holiday, BBQ, or event!
