Father’s Day is a few weeks away! This DIY bookmark is the perfect keepsake gift your little ones can make that he can also cherish and use each day! Listed below are the step by step instructions as well as the free heart template “You will forever have an IMPRINT on my HEART.” The word “imprint” signifies the footprint as well as words “printed” in a book! I love this book by Eric Carle to gift with the bookmark but you could choose any of Dad’s favorites!

Materials needed:
- Colored cardstock paper (you could also use white cardstock)
- Crayola washable paint or Acrylic paint
- Foam brush
- Mouse tail cord (I used red, white and light blue) – found at Hobby Lobby
- Scissors
- Hole punch
- Glue stick
- Free printable – linked below
- Laminator (optional – but recommended)
- Laminating pouches (optional)
Directions:
Paint the bottom of your child’s foot using the foam brush and have them gently step on a piece of paper and lift foot straight up. Fill in any open spaces with extra paint using your finger if needed. Let dry completely (you can use a blow dryer to speed up drying process).
Cut out heart tag and use a glue stick to place it on the middle of the footprint. I prefer using a glue stick versus liquid glue because it’s not as messy and doesn’t create bubbles under the tag. Cut out around footprint leaving a slight border of your colored paper. Have your child write their name and the year on the back of the footprint before laminating.
Laminate your bookmark and punch a hole in the top (above foot). You could also use these self-seal laminating pouches if you don’t have a laminator.
Cut out around your laminated bookmark. Tie your cords through the hole. I pulled all three colors through, folded it in half and took an additional piece of white cord, wrapped around the base all three colors, tied a double knot and cut off the excess. You could also do a slip knot as well.

I’ve included three different sizes and two color options for the heart tag. I used the biggest option for my Daughter’s foot (who is 5).
