With my oldest daughter being three, I am constantly finding new ways for her to learn and be engaged. Flash cards have been around forever and are a great tool to use to help little ones learn! I started to notice the stack getting smaller and smaller every time we went to get them out of the box, or I would randomly find individual flash cards mixed in with her toys, etc. When I went to find ones that already had a ring they were way too expensive! You can find flash cards for $1 at the Dollar Store or Target’s Bullseye’s Playground occasionally. I came up with my own way to keep ALL of our flash cards together and organized!

Materials needed:
Punch a hole in the upper left corner of one of the flash cards.
Grab two more flash cards and use your original as a template to punch a hole in two flash cards at a time.
You can try more than two at a time, but this worked well for my hole puncher.
The completed flash cards with all of the holes punched.
Cut the front of the flash card box off.
Round the edges to match the rounded edges of the flash cards and punch a hole in the top left corner.
Twist open the cable ring.
Place all of your flash cards in order on the cable ring with the cardboard box card in front of the corresponding theme.
Twist the cable ring closed. Using the front of the box the cards came in helps to make a divider between the different flash card themes.
You could easily fit 4-5 different sets of flash cards on one 6″ cable ring. The great thing about these rings is you can also twist multiple together to create an even bigger ring to put ALL of your flash cards on! This way, they are ALWAYS in the same place! This option makes it great to travel and take on road trips, twist on a bag or hang on a hook! 🙂
My daughter really enjoys being able to use all of her flash cards at once and will often take them with her room to room. It also makes me feel good knowing random ones won’t go missing anymore! 🙂 I hope you will also use this technique for your flash cards or any item you want to keep together!
Additional ideas:
These plastic storage bins from Target are great to keep all of her educational tools in! I also highly recommend this Water WOW! It’s great to take in the car for an easy, fun activity for a toddler to do!
And of course, you can never forget stickers! I like to find plain banners to hang where she can be creative and place stickers on them! Better than on your furniture or the wall, right? 😉
