May your STARS shine bright on New Year’s night, have your littles make a keepsake that is sure to delight! It’s hard to believe New Years is almost here! I wanted to have an activity for our oldest daughter to complete each hour until midnight. This sand art activity is perfect to complete and she will have a New Year’s souvenir at the end of the night! I also like the meaning of a “sand” hourglass, as it symbolizes the passage of time.

Materials needed:
- Colored sand
- Sand bottle – This kit has multiple bottles (including star) and sand all in one kit!
- Hourglass
- Milk bottles (optional)
- Wooden stars (optional)
- Gold glitter (optional)
- Wood dowels (optional)
Directions:
Choose your shaped bottle. Make sure to keep the funnel that comes with the kit.
Measure the height and divide by 6. Mine was 3.5 inches.
Using a washable marker, mark your six sections on the back of the bottle. I did 1/2 inch sections. (This will be your sand marker for each hour to make sure you don’t overfill before midnight).
Paint glue and sprinkle gold glitter on the wooden stars.
Glue the times on stars. We decided to start with 6 o’clock, but you can alter this due to your child’s bedtime if needed and start earlier.
Pour sand colors into milk bottles or any container you would like.
Glue wooden dowels to the back of the stars and place them into the bottles in the order of sand colors you want to pour during that hour. This is optional, but I wanted to make it more festive! 🙂
Place your marked bottle near the sand.
Flip the hourglass over each hour. Kids will enjoy watching the sand fall through!
When the time runs out, pour your colored sand to the next line.
At midnight, place the bottle cap on top! Your child will now have a keepsake!
Use a wipe or damp paper towel to wipe off the lines on the back and write the year in Sharpie so they remember!
I glued a bow to the bottle cap to add a sweet girly touch!
I hope everyone has a Happy New Year and your little ones enjoy this countdown to New Years activity! ♥
