Be Creative

My oldest daughter loves butterflies! I mean, what’s not to love? They flutter about letting us know Spring has finally arrived! They are also fun to create due to the many beautiful colors and varieties they come in. These wands are very easy to make and can be customized to fit your specific color theme.

Materials needed:

Directions:

Start with a 4 foot piece of yarn (use more or less depending on the size you want your butterfly).

Tie a bow in the middle of the yarn leaving the long tails.

Flip the tails up to meet the center of the bow and grab the sections where the yarn tails meet the base (center) of the bow.

Tie a knot at the section you just grabbed.

Cut off any excess yarn. Try to get as much cut off as possible without untying the knot.

Push the yarn knot up to the middle of the bow.

Hot glue the middle of the bow and the knot together (forming the butterfly wings).

Hot glue your craft stick in the middle.

Break or cut your wood candy sticks to the length you want your antennas.

Hot glue them to the top of the craft stick (shown above).

Hot glue pom poms on top of your craft stick. Glue your wooden dowel to the back of the bottom half of the craft stick (from the base of the wings down).

Glue pom poms in the center of each wing and your butterfly wands are finished! My daughter’s favorite color is purple, so she was very excited when she saw them! Follow me along on Instagram and let me know if you make this easy DIY Butterfly Wand! I would love to see your creations!
